Starting today we are welcoming new doggy day campers at our Bethany facility. Doggy day camp is an all day play day for your pup while you are at work. They get the opportunity to expend some energy and you get the comfort of knowing they are safe and having fun.

Each month we host a Meetup Group for dogs (and people) so they can get together a play off leash for couple hours and socialize. Check out some of our pictures below! If you aren't a member you can join for free today on our Meetup Group Website.
Last Christmas police apprehended a man walking around aimlessley holding a cooler in Branford. He was undoubtedly looking for a place to leave it. And thank goodness the police stopped him. Inside the cooler were 8 puppies! The new born pups and their Mom were taken to New Haven Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine on Christmas Day where they were cared for. Once the puppies were old enough, they were all adopted. And just last weekend all of the happy puppies came together for a family reunion in the middle of Branford Towne Green. What a great ending!!! Take a look at the lucky pups in the pic below courtesy of the Branford Eagle.
We had a great time at Duck Day this past weekend! Unfortunately my duck was not the fastest "swimmer" and I didn't win the $5,000 Grand Prize, but we really enjoyed meeting everyone! Check out some of our photos below.
There will also be a meet the vet table, obedience training demonstrations, animal reiki, pet photography, a kids corner, local pet related vendors, food, entertainement, dog games & contests, raffles, & more!
Our new Pet Lodge is finally coming together and the end of construction is in sight. We are currently accepting reservations for Memorial Day weekend and the summer! Give us a call at 203-393-3126 to reserve a suite today! If you are a current customer of ours you can now book your stay online.

We have expanded some of the original spaces to make our suites even larger!
Our Luxury Suites are really starting to shape up. They are separate from the main section of the lodge and offer a nice, quiet get away. Soon these will be outfitted with an oversized toddler bed, perfect for any canine King or Queen.
As you know, there has been a major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Now there is a way you can help the clean up efforts. A non-profit organization called Matter of Trust is collecting donations of clean hair and fur (human and animal) to clean up the oil in the ocean. Hair is hydrophobic which means it repels water and it's also great for absorbing oil (greasy hair means that hair collects oil). So, Matter of Trust has volunteers making devices called hair mats and hair booms which are made out of recycled hair and nylons. When these are placed in the oil filled water, the oil is absorbed.
Best Friends Pet Care will be donating all hair clippings to Matter of Trust to assist in the Oil Spill clean up. Give us a call at 203-393-3126 to schedule an appointment for your dog or cat today!
Below is a video which was posted on YouTube. It explains what Matter of Trust is doing and how everything works.

With the first day of spring just around the corner most peoples minds are on warmer weather but little thought is put towards the needs of there pets this time of year. Along with the warmer weather comes fleas and ticks so make sure you are stocked up on your Frontline to help protect for your pet and to check your pet daily for any sign of these little bugs. Shedding can be a major issue this time of year so don't forget to make an appointment for you dog to be groomed and ask about the Shedicure service to help reduce the amount of hair your dog will leave in you house. While you are outside doing you spring clean up remember that most gardening tools are sharp so leave them in such a way that a curious pet does not get hurt. Also be aware of any fertilizers and/or pesticides you use on your lawn and garden which may be harmful to your pets. Look for brands that say veterinarian or EPA certified. Finally don't leave you pet unattended in a car. This puts you pet in danger of heat stroke which can come on very quickly. Leaving a window open will not protect them from this and only tempts them to jump out.
We had a great Meet Up Group yesterday, Saturday March 6th. A whopping 23 furry friends showed up to run, sniff, play, kiss, and bark!! Both pets and their loving owners had an awesome time. Moms and Dads enjoyed some coffee and donuts while their four legged loved ones scampered about making new friends and reconnecting with fellow frequent fliers. :) Look at the photos below to see the fun and make a note to definitely stop by in the future. Check back here at the Best Friends Bethany Blog to see when the next Meet Up will be scheduled.
